No wife or kids in tow. Strictly “business.” Oh, and he and the judge graduated from Harvard Law school together in 1991.
Excerpted From The Honolulu Star: Coming off a string of high-profile meetings, former President Barack Obama made an unannounced return to Hawaii Monday.
Just three months removed from his last official holiday visit as president, Obama was spotted dining at Buzz’s Lanikai Monday night.
Earlier in the day, Obama met with tech executives at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. Keep reading
Excerpted From Local Station KHON:
The former president was seen with a much smaller entourage than his last visit, though it still includes a Secret Service detail.
“We wanted President Obama and his party to have a nice, quiet dinner at Noi Thai, and did our best to keep it under wraps the whole day — even diners on the other side of the restaurant had no idea the president was eating here,” said Ying Rosawan, the restaurant’s general manager. “Only a handful of people knew he was coming. We only told our staff just before he came. In the end, it was so worth it and we really hope to see him on his next visit back home to Hawaii.”
There’s no word on how long Obama will be here in the islands, and there’s been no announcement of any official appearances.
Reddit: If you look on google maps, both 1 and 2 are about 30 minutes by car from the courthouse.. Obviously if Obama were to meet him, they wouldn’t meet at the courthouse- that’s just silly. But it gives you a rough idea of the the general vicinity in which the judge lives and works, and therefore, how accessible he would have been to Obama. Given the location of the courthouse on the water, if the judge were to leave the courthouse, he almost certainly would only be traveling closer towards Obama. Given Obama’s locations on the water as well, were he to leave the country club, he almost certainly would only be traveling closer towards the judge.
1. Where Obama had dinner after golf: Noi Thai (Royal Hawaiian Center, C, 2301 Kalakaua Ave C308, Honolulu, HI 96815). The local news article said that Obama drove from Mid-Pacific Country Club to Noi Thai. That’s much closer to the courthouse.
Also, they were likely within 5 minutes of the judge’s house at one point on the drive over.

According to Google Maps, its only 4 miles distance. Google maps says its a 15 min drive).
